On a tragic note, Laura Lynch, a crucial founding member of The Dixie Chicks, met with a fatal accident in El Paso, Texas, where she lost her life at the age of 65.
The accident occurred as Lynch was traveling eastbound on U.S. 62, and another vehicle attempted to pass a car on a two-way undivided portion of the highway, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. It took place around 5:45 p.m. local time on a Friday.
The band, which rebranded itself as The Chicks in 2020, expressed deep shock and sadness at her untimely demise. They fondly recalled the cherished moments of making music, sharing laughter, and traveling together with Lynch.
Laura Lynch was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, and it was reported that she was not wearing a seatbelt during the accident. The driver of the other vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries after the vehicle caught fire.
Having co-founded the group in 1989 alongside Robin Lynn Macy, Martie Erwin, and Emily Erwin, Lynch contributed as the upright bass player and later transitioned into a vocalist. She was part of three albums before her departure, after which Natalie Maines took on her role in the band.
